Mostar election still in question

When asked by journalists whether the May 10th is too late since the election should be announced by May 9th, Predrag Supljeglav, one of the participants in the meeting, said he believes it is not too late for the amendment of the Statute, but it is too late when it comes to the election model and creation of presumptions for election in Mostar to be held along with the general election in October.

“There is a possibility that the election in Mostar be held in the second term, not in conjunction with the general election, so that May 9th should not be taken as a ‘day D’,” said Supljeglav, on behalf of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) party which hosted today's meeting.

He added that he hoped the party representatives would submit their final positions on the provisions of the Statute by May 10th, and at that, the meeting would result in the guidelines for its amendment, as well as the final position when it comes to the councillors’ election model.

In 2010, the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a decision ordering that Bosnia's Election Law and the Mostar City Statute must be amended, because the Statute violates the basic democratic principle of 'one man – one vote.'
