The number of illegal migrants who entered Bosnia, as well as those who were returned to Montenegro and Serbia, has significantly increased over the past four months, Bosnia's Border Police reported.
According to the Border Police, more than 1,200 migrants were discovered in the attempt of or after entering Bosnia. Out of this number, some 400 illegal migrants were registered only in April, three times more than in January 2018.
Bosnia has become a part of the new route for migrants coming from the Middle East and other countries, trying to reach their final destinations mostly in western Europe. Besides the lack of border police officers who would be controlling the state border, which the Bosnian Security Minister Dragan Mektic recently warned about, the country also lacks the capacities to accommodate the migrants during the regular asylum seeking procedure.

A total number of illegal migrants who were returned to Montenegro and Serbia during the January-April period exceeded 1,500. While the number of returned migrants in January was 125, the number of those returned in April was 604, the Border Police said.
Discovered migrants mostly come from Syria, Pakistan, Libya and Afghanistan, with an insignificant number of those fleeing from Bangladesh, Turkey, Jordan, Nigeria, etc.
