A late May referendum will decide on the candidate of Bosnian left-wing Social-Democratic Party (SDP), who will run for the post of the state Presidency member, SDP Vice President Denis Becorivic has told N1.

Becirovic, who stands the best chance to be selected as SDP's candidate, says he will respect “democratically expressed will in the referendum”, taking place in the late May.

“If a large number of citizens gives me the trust, I will not escape the responsibility. I never did that, I was never afraid of fighting for the homeland Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Becirovic.

SDP Main Board met on Saturday and passed a decision to call the referendum, where more than 42,000 members will cast a secret vote and choose the candidate for member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) recently called the general election, which will take place in October this year, during which the voters will elect 518 officials, namely, the members of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency, members of state and entity parliaments as well as cantonal assemblies’ members.
