A Bosnian, Nerin Dizdar from the City of Stolac decided to take in a refugee family into his own home. Speaking to N1, he spoke of his reasons for making such a move.

“The father and two of his children, a boy and a girl, are a nice, educated family who have been on the road for the past year, trying to connect with their mother living in France. The father has had an open heart surgery and is partially paralysed,” Dizdar said. “They aren’t aggressive, they don’t do drugs and don’t bite. They are what we were 25 years ago.”

He told N1 that they are an Afghan family who were forced to leave their homes.

“Their family has been split and the mother managed to get to France with one of their children, where she lives legally,” Dizdar said.

He came to the idea to host a refugee family into his home when his wife and he watched the recent events in Konjic, when a five-bus refugee convoy on its way from Sarajevo to the refugee asylum centre “Salakovac” near Mostar, was intercepted by the local police and stopped in the town of Konjic, preventing them from reaching the Salakovac centre.

The convoy was allowed to continue on its path after several hours and the refugees settled in Salakovac centre. Then his wife told him they should do something.

Their father communicates with the wife via social networks and Sykpe.

“The wife lives in France legally. We hope to help this man and that the French Embassy will help this family,” Dizdar concluded.
