The Council of Ministers (CoM) of Bosnia and Herzegovina expects the control over the state borders with its eastern neighbours, Serbia and Montenegro, to continue and to have all state-level police capacities involved in this operation with an aim to prevent illegal entries to the country.
The ministers discussed on Monday the pressing issue of migrants, who have been coming to Bosnia – a new route on the way to their final destinations in Europe. According to a statement issued after the session, the ministers also spoke about preparations for a donor conference in Sarajevo when some countries and international organizations may financially assist Bosnia to overcome the situation with migrants.
The Service for Foreigners’ Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina registered a little over 6,000 of illegal migrants since the beginning of the year. Although 5,887 of them expressed intention to seek the asylum, as a part of the regular procedure, only 611 actually did that.
According to official information presented at the ministers’ session, no migrant has been granted asylum and 70 percent of the migrants who entered the country has already left.
