Prosecutors are gathering evidence on the disappearance of journalist Stefan Cvetkovic and will take his statement as part of the investigation, Vrsac city Prosecutor Tihomir Knezevic said on Thursday.
“We are waiting for some evidence to get to us and will have information on Monday. That is when we will decide when to summon Cvetkovic. There is no reason to arrest him, we will invite him to come in,” Knezevic told the Beta news agency.
The prosecutors in Vrsac and Pancevo said on Tuesday that some facts indicate that Cvetkovic might have falsely reported his abduction after his car was found abandoned in his hometown of Bela Crkva on June 13.
The prosecutors said they would investigate and decide whether to file criminal charges against the journalist.
Cvetkovic told a June 19 press conference in Belgrade that he had been abducted by three men. He later told Beta that he would hold a new press conference to explain all dilemmas.
