The Serbia-Switzerland match was marked by controversial behavior in the stands, as supporters of Serbia were spotted wearing hoodies with the image of former Republika Srpska Army commander Ratko Mladic, who last year was sentenced to life in prison in the Hague for war crimes.
In a first instance ruling, the Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia found that Mladic was guilty of the genocide in Srebrenica, the persecution of Muslims and Croats, terror tactics against the population of Sarajevo, and taking UNPROFOR personnel hostage.
Serbia was defeated 1:2 last night by Switzerland in the second round of the World Cup in Russia. Mitrovic scored the goal for Serbia, while Switzerland’s goals were scored by their players Xhaka and Shaqiri.
