Bosnian feature film The Frog achieved significant success at this year’s, 65th Pula Film Festival, being rewarded for the best film and the best director within the Croatian Minority Co-production category.
Based on a theatre piece that has been performed for years, The Frog, which premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival 2017, tells a story about a war veteran suffering from PTSD, whose family left him for his violent behaviour. The movie remained faithful to the original play, keeping all of its actors from the stage.
The movie by Elmir Jukic was rewarded by the Golden Arena for the best film and the Golden Arena for the best director, winning also the Fedeora Jury award within the same category.
Jukic said he was satisfied with the recognition the film received, recalling that the previous rewards the film and its actors received too proved this was “a good project.”
“We created a film the people would watch. The awards at festivals are a strong recommendation for some other festivals. I can say I am deeply convinced that The Frog will continue it festival life after Pula,” he added.
Speaking of poor investments in Bosnia’s cinematography, he said that presence of Bosnian films at prominent festivals proves their authors are strong and the manage despite everything.
“I hope that this sort of talent will simply pave its way regardless of being ignored by politics,” added Jukic.
