Bosnia’s Security Minister Dragan Mektic and Head of USAID mission to Bosnia Peter Duffy exchanged information about the deradicalisation project implemented in some 15 local communities, with a special focus on youth and the fight against radicalisation via the internet. The two also discussed the migrant situation and human trafficking in Bosnia.
Mektic assessed the project as very important, stressing that its results are already visible. He supported the continuation of the implementation of this program the goal of which is to familiarise youth with the dangers of radical ideas, their effects and how to deter youth them from such ideas.
The Security Minister familiarised Duffy with the measures undertaken in stopping illegal migration through Bosnia, strengthening of the country’s borders and providing adequate living conditions for the migrants that are already in the country.
Duffy familiarised Mektic with the human trafficking report, saying that Bosnia fell back by one place. He stressed that the reasons for this are the non-processing of persons dealing with this type of crime, the work of the Strike group for the monitoring of human trafficking in Bosnia, as well as the inadequate work of social workers and police officers dealing with the begging issue which is very rarely treated as a human trafficking issue.
