The upcoming trilateral meeting Bosnia and Herzegovina-Serbia-Turkey will contribute to the normalisation of political situation and will position Bosnia as a centre of diplomatic initiatives, the Serb member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency, Mladen Ivanic, said on Saturday.

Ivanic also assessed as very important the informal meeting of the South-east Europe foreign ministers, which will take place in Banja Luka on September 5, only a day after the trilateral meeting.

“Those are important meetings for both Banja Luka and Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is slowly becoming a centre of diplomatic initiatives,” Ivanic said.

The meetings, he hopes, will contribute to the normalisation of political situation despite the pre-election period that the country is slowly entering.

“Bosnia needs a normalisation and not conflicts, and every multilateral meeting will contribute to that,” Ivanic said.

According to him, it was “a grave mistake” of politicians in Sarajevo who did not accept to discuss the border demarcation with Serbia.

“The entire border was determined, and it was only necessary to make some corrections near Rudo. It is simply unbelievable that people had no courage to support that, and it would be very positive and would solve a number of issues in the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, and would put pressure on other parties with whom the border issue is far more complex to show some good will too,” Ivanic noted.

The border issue with Serbia can be solved in line with the metre-for-metre principle, Ivanic emphasized, and concluded that he would keep insisting on solving of this matter.
