Over 13,000 illegal migrants were reported with the Service for the Foreigners' Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina since the beginning of the year, according to Bosnia's Ministry of Security.

Of 12,194 migrants who expressed intention to seek the asylum in Bosnia, only 1,102 did that, reads the Security Ministry's information which was adopted by Bosnia's Council of Ministers on Tuesday.

Bosnia emerged as a new migrant route after the European Union countries had closed their borders and has been dealing with the influx of migrants who were finding a temporary shelter on the way to, as they said, their final destinations in the western Europe.

Besides the lack of border police officers, who would be controlling the state border, the country also lacked the capacities to accommodate the migrants.

“The largest number of migrants comes from Pakistan (4,352), Syria (1,964), Iran (1,843), Afghanistan (1,302) and Iraq (1,175)”, said the Ministry's report, according to which, the number of migrants on the territory of the western Una-Sana region, bordering Croatia, has decreased.
