Bosnia's Foreign Affairs Minister Igor Crnadak said on Friday that “practically no new warriors” from Bosnia and Herzegovina were registered on the foreign battlefields over the recent period.

Addressing a press conference following the meeting with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Sarajevo, Crnadak said that Bosnia is dealing with this issue in a serious way.

“We were one of the first countries to adopt a law that forbids the recruitment, motivation and departure to the foreign battlefields,” Crnadak said pointing out that the law yielded good effects.

“Over the recent period we, practically, have not registered new foreign warriors from Bosnia and Herzegovina. That, of course, doesn't mean this problem vanished because there is an issue and a problem of those who return from the foreign battlefields,” Crnadak explained.

Russia's Lavrov, who arrived in Bosnia for an official visit, spoke about current development in Syria and the agreement that Russia's and Turkey's leaders reached on establishing a demilitarised zone in the Syrian Idlib province.

“That agreement focused primarily on the elimination of terrorist threats. Of course, that's only one of the steps because what follows after the current phase is the formation of a demilitarised zone,” Lavrov said adding that military institutions of the two countries agreed on the specific steps and the agreement is being implemented in Idlib.

The sanctions that the USA introduced against some Russian nationals and legal entities, said Lavrov, did not surprise him.

“That simply shows the USA's ‘dirty’ game and confirms that the dollar system discredited itself. It's not the first time that some serious international problems, which concern people in various parts of the world, become hostages of some circles,” he underlined.

“We act in line with our own conclusions and will do everything to reduce the independence on the countries that refer in that way towards their international obligations,” Lavrov added.

Foreign Ministers of Bosnia and Russia signed a plan of consultations between the Foreign Affairs Ministries of the two countries for the period 2019-2020.

Lavrov started off his visit to Bosnia on Friday by meeting the members of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency.
