The most wanted profession in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first half of 2018 were salespersons, bartenders and construction workers, according to a research by a company providing the consultancy and employment services.

Nearly 5,000 vacancies for over 11,285 job posts were published in the first half of 2018 through Posao.ba, a web portal owned by Kolektiv company, a local consultancy and employment provider. The number of published job posts in this period increased by 34 percent compared to the same period in 2017.

According to an analysis carried out by Posao.ba, employers received 157,687 job applications through this web portal, an average of 14 applicants for one position.

The highest interest was recorded in the categories of administration, architecture, law, banking, economy and finance, while the applicants demonstrated the lowest interests for the jobs in the categories of catering, production, construction, security services.

The research showed that the number of the job posts from abroad seeking the workers in Bosnia has increased by 38 percent, just like the number of applicants for the jobs abroad, which increased by 55 percent.

According to the analysis that Posao.ba conducted in cooperation with the Networks and the Boston Consulting Group, which involved nearly 400,000 examinees, 80 percent said they would leave the country for, as they emphasised, better living standards, economic uncertainty and higher income. As the most attractive countries, they mentioned Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden and Norway.

The departure of Bosnia's citizens cannot be prevented unless the living standards are improved and economic uncertainty removed, which cannot be fixed in the short-term. To fix this, the analysis recommended a more rigorous planning of the labour force demands in cooperation with employers, harmonisation of the entry quota in educational institutions, more of practical classes in high schools and faculties, and putting more efforts and more resources in the upskilling and requalification processes.
