Dozens of migrant families with children who were accommodated in a hotel near the nortwestern Bosnian town of Bihac have started moving towards Izacic, the border crossing with Croatia, the news agencies reported on Monday.
Reportedly, they first intend to reach Bihac and join the migrants who are staying in an abandoned dormitory in this town and then proceed to the border crossing.
Police confirmed that the migrants’ group is secured and provided a police escort.
“We cannot speak about their specific goals. Our current task is to provide them with a safe movement and arrival,” police spokesperson Snezana Galic told media.
Earlier on Monday a group of some 200 migrants who were staying in a tent camp near Velika Kladusa, another town in the northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reached the Maljevac border crossing, blocking one road lane in that area and demanding an uninterrupted crossing of the border.
The group was prevented from blocking the border crossing and was returned to their initial destination, the tent camp.
“According to the latest information, the migrants are slowly returning, under the police escort, to the Trnovi camp where they stayed before,” Galic said.
Some 10,500 migrants were registered in the Una-Sana Canton, the northwest of Bosnia, since the beginning of the year, according to Una-Sana Canton Interior Ministry. Only in August and September, nearly 5,000 migrants came to Bihac, trying to come as closer as possible to the border with Croatia. Their final destinations, as they say, are the western Europe countries.

The influx of migrants and occasional incidents involving them have triggered dissatisfaction of citizens, who took to the streets of Bihac over the last weekend, demanding from the state authorities to solve the migrant issue. They said the protest would continue until their request is met.
