Laws exist and they are good, but they are only partially implemented or not implemented at all, a police officer named Dzenan Fejzic told N1 when speaking about the system and conditions in which police have to do their job. He spoke for N1 after two policemen were killed in the line of duty last Friday.
“I worked that night until 12 p.m. and tomorrow morning, around 5:30 a.m. I heard about the incident and said I was ready to assist my colleagues in solving this crime. The two dead policemen weren’t even able to use their sidearm get the long barrel gun from the car,” Fejzic said.
Two policemen of the Sarajevo Canton Interior Ministry Adis Sehovic and Davor Vujinovic were shot in the line of duty, last Friday while working on a car theft case in Sarajevo’s Alipasino neighbourhood. Unknown perpetrator(s) had shot the police officers after being discovered with a long barrel gun.
Fejzic pointed out that the current Criminal Code is good, but that it is only partially implemented which makes their job harder.
“The laws exist and they are good, but they aren’t being implemented or are only partially implemented. The system is good, the law is good but it is not implemented as it should be. The focus should be on the sanction,” he added.
When asked if he feels safe in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its capital, Sarajevo, he said:
“I don’t feel quite safe. Car thefts are on the rise and the criminals are getting more aggressive in using firearms so our lives are always threatened whenever we go to work.”
“The earlier (former Yugoslavia’s) system protected the police and stood by the police. Nowadays everyone has the right to complain about the police.”
