Police arrested on Thursday eight people suspected of wartime killings of 14 Bosnian Croat prisoners of war, the state Prosecutor’s Office said on Thursday.

The suspects were members of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina and operated in the area of Central Bosnia and the town of Vitez. They are suspected of breaching the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war and civilians.

According to prosecutors, the suspects have killed at least 12 members of the Croatian Defense Council (HVO) who had surrendered beforehand, and two female Bosnian Croat civilians near the villages of Krizancevo, Safradin and Dubravice, where they also committed robberies and destruction of property.

The corpses reportedly had marks on them indicating that the victims were tortured and that parts of their bodies were being cut off.

According to police, certain documentation related to the charges was found during the search of the premises of some of the suspects.
