The Mostar branch of the Islamic humanitarian organisation 'Merhamet' distributed on Sunday packages to poor Serb families who are celebrating Badnjak and Orthodox Christmas.

The goal was to help low income families decently celebrate Christmas, said the head of the Mostar Merhamet branch, Kenan Vrbanjac.

“We have distributed 30 food packages to socially vulnerable families in Mostar and 45 packages for children,” he said.

The organisation also distributed two weeks ago similar Christmas packages to Catholics in the western town of Bihac.

Boris Antelj from the Serb Orthodox charity “Dobrotvor” which operates under the auspices of the Orthodox church in Mostar said that Merhamet’s move was important for the poor families.

“We are grateful to Merhamet for helping us these days. This is a tradition and we hope we will continue to cooperate in the future,” Antelj said.
