The Potocari Memorial Centre where the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide are buried marked on Sunday the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, showing the documentary “Auschwitz.”

The Holocaust Remembrance Day is organised every year on January 27, the day when the largest WWII concentration camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, was closed down in 1945.

“Testimonies of the survivors are a constant warning about what happens when the forces of evil take over,” said the head of the steering board of the Memorial Centre, Nisvet Mujanovic.

“Numerous survivor associations that maintain the memory of the victims of the Holocaust have raised their voices in solidarity with the victims of the genocide in Srebrenica,” he said.

He added that, despite rulings by international courts, there are still those who are trying to revise history and who are insulting the victims and the truth.

“We are witnessing the crimes being denied, even convicted war criminals being openly glorified. This even includes some officials,” he said.

Munira Subasic, the head of the 'Mothers of the enclaves of Srebrenica and Zepa', said that the Holocaust must never be forgotten and that genocide victims have a special obligation to commemorate it.

"Europe said ‘never again’ after the Holocaust and that ‘never’ lasted until the Srebrenica genocide. Europe and the rest of the world did not learn anything from the Holocaust," she said.

Nevertheless, she added, neither the Holocaust nor the Srebrenica genocide should ever be forgotten.
