Bosnian Border Police officers prevented on Wednesday smuggling of 23 Pakistani nationals on its north-western border.

“Illegal migrants were found during the border control of a van with Bosnian plates. They possessed no identification documents and they told our officers they come from Pakistan. Two nationals of Bosnia and Herzegovina are associated with this smuggling,” said the Border Police.

Three more foreigners attempted to enter Bosnia in an illegal way through Sarajevo airport.

The Border Police unit operating at the Sarajevo International Airport caught three passengers travelling with falsified Italy's passports which were temporarily seized from the foreigners who, the further border control showed, were Iranian nationals. In line with Bosnia's Law on Foreigners, they were sent back to Istanbul where they came from.

According to official figures, 3,323 migrants originating from Asian and African countries entered Bosnia since the beginning of the year. Temporary capacities that Bosnian authorities prepared with the help of international organisations to accommodate migrants during the winter days are almost fully packed.

Seven migrant centres, four of which are in the north-westernmost part of the country, provide shelter to around 5,000 migrants, who are awaiting the opportunity to continue their journey to the final destinations in the western Europe.
