Lamb with six legs born in Budak

When Meho Avdic saw his sheep was struggling to give birth two weeks ago, he kneeled down to help but then saw something he never saw before - the newborn had six legs.

“When I saw the lamb, I couldn’t believe it, it had six legs,” said Avdic, who has been keeping sheep in his village of Budak, near the eastern town of Srebrenica, since he was a child.

Despite having six of them, the lamb could not get up on its feet.

The mother also delivered that day another, normal lamb.

“I took the lamb to the veterinarian in Bratunac. There were many people there who couldn’t believe what they are seeing. Orthodox believers made the sign of the cross when they saw it,” Avdic said.

The veterinarian who checked the lamb removed two of its legs and gave it a shot, telling Avdic that there was a slim chance it would survive for even three days.

“The lamb is already two weeks old, there are no problems, we feed it with a bottle. It is still not as stable as the other lambs, but we will see what will happen. I would like it to survive,” Avdic said.

Avdic still cannot believe what he saw that day.

“I never heard of a lamb having six legs, let alone seen it. There were situations when, for example, a lamb would be missing part of its ear, but one with six legs, I have never seen that” he said.

“It was God’s will for it to be born that way, but also to survive. Somehow I became close to it and I take care of it now,” he added.
