More than 20,500 citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina renounced their citizenship over the past five years with the government profiting five million Euros from stripping them from the register.
A total of 20,536 BiH citizens renounced their citizenship in the 2014-19 period, the Civil Affairs Ministry in Sarajevo said, replying to a question from Bosnian MP Sasa Magazinovic.There were 3,519 renunciants in 2014, 3,359 in 2015, and over 4,400 in 2016, 2017 and 2018 each.On average, each citizen paid EUR 240 to be stripped from the citizenship register.The ministry said citizens who either had or were guaranteed to be granted another country's citizenship gave their Bosnian citizenship.
