30,000 persons left Bosnia since the beginning of the year, according to data collected by the Union for Sustainable Return and Integration, with the northern Posavina and southern Herzegovina region affected the most by this trend.
The data is shocking but it doesn't seem to concern the authorities, said Mirhunisa Zukic, the Union President.
Speaking for N1, Zukic said the organisation she represents has been warning about this problem since 2013.
“Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina has never put on agenda the problem of departure of Bosnian citizens. At least to show they are concerned,” stressed Zukic.
According to her, this is all happening due to the unchanging situation in the country.
“It is mass, people are leaving, abandoning their jobs, very stable jobs. They are departing in an organised way, we're monitoring it,” she emphasised.
Zukic mentioned the southern town of Ljubuski as an example portraying the situation.
“Ljubuski is a small town with many returnees and it is simple to leave from there. Once you reach the border you are in the European Union. One amazing town, a tourist place, but people are leaving. Let alone Capljina, Stolac,” she said.
