KFOR spokesman Colonel Vincenzo Grasso denied any knowledge of an impending humanitarian crisis in the north of Kosovo.

Grasso told Thursday’s issue of Belgrade daily Politika that, according to information that the international military mission has, there is no danger of a humanitarian crisis in that part of Kosovo.

Officials and media in Belgrade have reported shortages of food and medicine in the four northern, majority-Serb municipalities, claiming that a humanitarian catastrophe is coming. The authorities in Pristina have denied those reports and claims, saying that official Belgrade is trying to construe a humanitarian crisis.

Grasso said the security situation in under control, adding that KFOR helicopters conducted night flights over parts of northern Kosovo as part of the training of crews who joined the international forces recently. “Nothing unexpected can happen and KFOR continues to maintain communication with all relevant institutions in Kosovo and Serbia,” the colonel said.
