Wartime Bosnian Serb army commander and convicted war criminal Ratko Mladic was transferred to a hospital over health issues, his son Darko told the Srna news agency on Friday.

Darko Mladic said his father did not feel well and was admitted to a hospital on Thursday where he would undergo checkups.

Younger Mladic said the family was waiting for news on his father's condition.

"They told my mother informally that it was not that bad, but that they will keep him there for further checkups. We still have no information on what’s going on,” he said.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) sentenced Mladic (77) in November 2017 to life imprisonment for genocide and war crimes committed during the Balkan conflict.

The verdict is still on appeal.
