The events in Foca are by all accounts a genocide, the Bosniak member of Bosnia's tripartite Presidency Sefik Dzaferovic said, Sunday, marking the anniversary of the suffering of 3,000 civilians from this eastern Bosnian town and its surroundings.

“Some 22,000 Bosniaks were expelled, killed, raped, and are missing without a trace from the area where they had lived there for centuries. Of those 22,000, 3,000 were killed, a huge number of them, were never identified... how else to call it but genocide," Dzaferovic said, adding that international and domestic justice institutions should call the Foca crimes by their real name.

He recalled that Foca is the municipality where most women were killed and raped during the aggression on BiH, adding that systemic rape was part of the overall criminal enterprise.

The Remembrance Day for all the Foca martyrs was organized by the Foca 92-95 War Victims Association, and members of the Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves and other associations, representatives of Bosnia's Islamic Community, the Government of the Bosnia-Podrinje Canton and the Bosniak Presidency member Sefik Dzaferovic.
