Sarajevo city authorities and several historical institutes determined that Sarajevo was established on February 1, 1462, Isa-beg Ishakovic Association said on Wednesday.

“It is our great pleasure that the City Council members, together with the Mayor of the City of Sarajevo, Abdullah Skaka, and the employees of the City Administration recognized the quality and importance of the project, based on which they adopted the initiative to determine the date of establishment of the City of Sarajevo,” said the Isa-Beg Ishakovic Association thanking everyone who contributed to the affirmation of this initiative.

The draft decision was made as a result of research on scientifically based historical facts, which was jointly worked on by Professor Emeritus Enes Pelidija and employees of the Historical Archives of the City of Sarajevo, the History Institute and the Oriental Institute at the University of Sarajevo, the Gaza Husrev-bey's Library and all participants of the International Scientific Conference “Isa-beg Ishakovic,” which was held in February this year.

The research covered the political, economic, social and religious circumstances of the birth of the city of Sarajevo, and based on confirmed facts, the team confirmed that the city of Sarajevo has a continuity of 557 years both in the name and the development of the urban environment, respecting and nurturing all the diversity of cultures, nations and religions.

The Association for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Isa-beg Ishakovic was founded in 2016 with the primary mission of revitalizing the character and works of the founder of the Sarajevo, Isa-beg Ishakovic.
