Former soldiers of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Army on Monday embarked on a peace march to Vukovar to mark the anniversary of the tragedy of that eastern Croatian town during the 1990s war, when the former Yugoslav People's Army occupied the town after several months of siege and destruction.

The Srebrenica-Vukovar Peace March was first organised two years ago by an association from Srebrenica which brings together former Bosnia and Herzegovina Army members to show solidarity with all innocent victims of war and to reciprocate for Croatia's commemorating the victims of the 1995 Srebrenica genocide against Bosniaks.

“We want to respect to the victims of Vukovar, the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and all innocent victims,” one of the organisers of the march, Zulfo Salihovic, said prior to the marchers heading off toward Vukovar where they will join commemorative events on November 18.

The journey from Srebrenica to Vukovar is 340 kilometres long and the organisers announced that the marchers starting the journey at Srebrenica and those who would join in at later stages of the route which leads via Tuzla, would enter Croatia at Slavonski Samac.
