Slovakia’s Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák is the most likely new special European Union's rapporteur for the Western Balkans, the Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti reported on Monday.

The daily quoted its sources as saying that Lajčák, an experienced politician, familiar with the regional situation, who already held several duties in the Western Balkans, fulfilled all conditions for the post.

The daily's sources added that Lajčák had two-hour talks behind closed doors with the next chief of the European Union diplomacy Josep Borrell regarding the new duty.

“The US has two envoys to the Western Balkans, and we have only one. That's why the things go as they do,” Lajčák reportedly told Borrell, referring to the slowness of the enlargement process and an increasing regional distancing from the EU, the daily quoted its source.
