Bosnia's Special Prosecutor for War Crimes proposed to the Security Ministry on Wednesday to ask Serbia to extradite Bosnian national, Osman Osmanovic, whom authorities of that country apprehended earlier this week on suspicion of allegedly committing war crimes.
The Prosecutor's Office said that its Special Prosecutor for War Crimes already works on a case referring to the suspect.
“Also, the reasons why the extradition to Bosnia and Herzegovina has been requested is that the said crimes were committed on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the victims are the nationals of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the evidence and witnesses are in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Osman Osmanovic himself is the national of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said the Prosecutor's Office.
The Security Ministry will decide on further steps with this regard.
Serbia's War Crimes Prosecutor's Office issued an order to investigate Osman Osmanovic on suspicion of committing war crimes against Serb civilians and prisoners of war in Gornji Rahic in the Brcko area, northern Bosnia, in the summer of 1992, the Deputy War Crimes Prosecutor Vasilije Seratlic said earlier this week.
Osmanovic is a former member of the Croat Defence Council (HVO) during the Bosnian war of 1992-1995.
