Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said in his message to Republika Srpska (RS) President Zeljka Cvijanovic that Serbia is its true friend and would always support its efforts.
“Serbia will always love and support the RS while respecting the integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” Vucic said in his message on the Day of the RS, Bosnia's Serb-majority region.
The message also expressed hope that economic and all other forms of cooperation would continue to develop along with cultural and spiritual ties while preserving the single identity of the Serb people.
A number of Serbian state officials were in Banja Luka (home of all RS institutions) to mark RS day, including a church service conducted by Serbian Orthodox Church Patriarch Irinej. The Serbian officials included the Serbian President’s General Secretary Nikola Selakovic, Defense Minister Aleksandar Vulin and Chief of Staff General Milan Mojsilovic.
RS day on January 9 is supposed to be a secular holiday but officials still attend church services on the day.
Bosnia's Constitutional Court declared the decision to mark RS Day unconstitutional as it discriminates its citizens who are not Serbs or Orthodox Christians because the RS celebrated its patron saint Stefan on the same day.
