Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark was appointed the new head of the European Union legal mission in Kosovo, EULEX, with the mandate lasting through June 14, the Beta news agency reported on Thursday.
As the head of EULEX, Swedish diplomat will support the relevant institutions in the rule of law area in Kosovo to increase their efficiency, sustainability, multiethnicity and responsibility without political influence and in line with the EU best practice, the Mission statement said.
“I'm looking forward to this new and challenging task. I'll see that EULEX, as a reliable partner to all its Kosovo partners and friends, continue supporting a concrete, timely and useful assistance to make them stronger and more capable on their European way,” Wigemark, who replaced a Greek diplomat Alexandra Papadopulo, said.
Wigemark served as head of the EU Delegation and EU SpecialRrepresentative in Bosnia and Herzegovina till August 2019.
