The Academy community's 61 members who had earlier signed the demand for changes in the state RTV TV editorial policy, said on Monday that the media situation in Serbia was additionally worsened by exclusion N1 TV channel from some 300,000 households.

They requested that the participants in the negotiations between state-owned Telekom Serbia and United Media do whatever they can to return N1 TV signal to those currently couldn't watch it.

“After our demand to RTS as the public broadcaster to respect the law, i.e., not to deprive viewers of information about important events in our country, the situation in the media has worsened. Many people cannot get objective and professional reporting offered by N1, what we, who signed the request to RTS, see as “a deceitful try to introduce media darkness in Serbia,” the statement from the community said.

 It added that “considering any idea of violating media freedom and disabling people to be correctly and truthfully informed, as an anti-civilisation act, without discussing the commercial part, we demand form all sides to do everything to give N1 signal back to people.”

The statement specifically demanded from “all state institutions that have anything to do with the issue to work in the interest of Serbia's people, instead of abolishing their right to information which is guaranteed by Serbia's Constitution.”
