The Muslim World League delegation led by secretary-general Muhammad bin Abdul Karim bin Abdulaziz Al-Issa visited the Srebrenica-Potocari Genocide Memorial Centre on Sunday and paid their respects to the victims, Anadolu Agency reported.

The League's Secretary-General Al-Issa said it was essential that peace be maintained in the Balkans.

“There's no doubt that there must be good relations between different nations in the Balkans because that leads to peace. That is what we stand for, and our faith is also committed to making peace. Hopefully, others will do the same. The situation around the world will only be resolved in a way that involves mutual communication and good relations,” said Al-Issa, who added that history is the best witness to the Srebrenica genocide:

“History is the best witness and it speaks best of what happened in Srebrenica. Those who don't believe in it should look at history. We are sorry that things like this happened, whether here or in the rest of the world. We are not talking about individuals and their views here. We want to hear what history says about it, and to make that the ultimate verdict.”

Munira Subasic, the head of the “Mothers of enclaves of Srebrenica and Zepa” association, found the Sunday visit significant.

“Today's visit is very significant. It would be more significant if representatives of the World Muslim League first came to Srebrenica and then to Belgrade. That is our objection because we know that those who killed in Srebrenica were blessed by the church. They should have first come to Srebrenica. After the Holocaust, Srebrenica is where everyone should visit. Some need to ask for forgiveness, others to be with us, and others to learn from the past,” Subasic said.
