The government of Bosnia's Serb majority part Republika Srpska (RS) tasked their Education Ministry and Education institute to create conditions the RS to appear independently from Bosnia in the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) test for 2021, the government said on Friday.

During Friday's session, the government adopted the information on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS).

“The government's position is that the RS should have the position in the said tests in like with entity's competencies in the field of education. The entity Education Ministry was tasked to conduct the PISA test in 2021 together with other Bosnian educational systems, with RS’ educational system separately visible on the international test's list and final results,” the government said.

Bosnia and Herzegovina consists of two semi-autonomous entities – the Bosniak-Croat shared Federation (FBiH) and the Serb-dominated Republika Srpska (RS), each with their own competencies, parliaments and ministries.

The reason for this, they said, is that results for the whole territory of Bosnia is useless for their entity system and thus cannot be used as a basis for the development of future plans.
