All children who shared the classroom with the student who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) in Banja Luka on Thursday were asked to stay home and away from the public for a period of 14 days during which they will be tested repeatedly, city authorities said.
The news that the coronavirus has arrived in Bosnia sent shockwaves among citizens across the country. Alen Seranic, the Health Minister of Bosnia's Republika Srpska region, revealed that a father and son from the central Bosnian city tested positive for the virus. The two had spent time in Italy last month.
Local authorities closed the Branko Copic elementary school until Monday while all rooms are being disinfected.
The students of the eighth-grade class are now being tested for the virus.
The head of the Republika Srpska Public Health Institute, Branislav Zaljkovic, asked the public to not panic, arguing that two confirmed coronavirus cases do not mean that it is an epidemic.
