Bosnia's State Prosecutor's Office has formed a case and opened an investigation into the ceremony that took place on March 11 in the southern town Konjic, which is linked to dozens of COVID-19 infection cases, according to the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN).

The Prosecutor's Office could not unveil more details on the investigation that was launched after Konjic-based arms factory ‘Igman’ organised an event marking its 70th anniversary, which was attended by a guest from Serbia who tested positive for the novel coronavirus after the ceremony,

The first coronavirus infection in Bosnia was confirmed on 5 March, which prompted the competent authorities to issue a series of preventive measures to contain the virus spread, including the ban on mass indoor gatherings.

The company management earlier said that the ban came six days later, on March 17, and that the ceremony was held in line with the measures that were in effect on that date.

After the general manager, Djahid Muratbegovic, tested positive to COVID-19, ‘Igman’ halted production for a two-week period.

Muratbegovic's personal driver passed away on Monday, as a consequence of the coronavirus infection, and the company manager was admitted to hospital after days of self-isolation.

A whole cluster including at least 22 confirmed cases is linked to the ceremony.
