Bosnia COVID-19 UPDATE: New infections among health workers, tally surpasses 900

21:10 Two employees of the cantonal hospital in the eastern town of Gorazde were infected with the new coronavirus, Bosnia-Podrinje Canton (BPK) Public Healthcare Institute chief Medina Bico confirmed Friday evening, adding that there is no fear of the virus spreading further in this hospital. Another Covid-19 patient died in Bosnia.

According to Bico, although they wore protective gear, an x-ray technician and engineer had had brief contact with the patient who was admitted to this hospital before being sent to Sarajevo for treatment.

“We preventively tested the x-ray department staff, because they had a contact with the infected patient and not because they were showing any symptoms,” she said, adding that other potential contacts will be tested too.

Another death was confirmed in the southern Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK), where an older man died as a result of the coronavirus infection.

Bosnia's total has surpassed 900 by Sunday evening and the death toll stands at 37.

13:00 Bosnia's Federation (FBiH) entity confirmed 27 new cases of Covid-19, over the past 24 hours, FBiH Civil Protection headquarters member Goran Cerkez said, warning that they might impose stricter measures if irresponsible citizens continue disobeying recommendation of social distancing and reduced movement.

According to Bosnia's Civil Affairs Ministry and the data they collected by 12 am Friday, there are 899 confirmed cases in the country, 9,399 persons were tested and 36 have died as a result of Covid-19.

The Bosniak-Croat shared Federation (FbiH)H entity has 501 cases, the Serb dominated Republika Srpska (RS) has 281 and the Brcko District has 17 confirmed covid 19 cases.

10:00 Seven new Covid-19 cases were detected in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, in the south of Bosnia's Bosniak-Croat Federation (FBiH) entity, authorities said.

According to the cantonal Civil Protection headquarters, three cases are from Mostar, three from Citluk and one from Capljina.

The total count of infection now stands at 880.

9:00 Bosnia's Serb-dominated entity of Republika Srpska (RS) recorded 16 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, over the past 24 hours and one more fatality caused by the virus, RS Health Minister Alen Seranic said.

“After testing 425 samples, 16 were positive for the Vuris. Of this number, nine were men and seven women,” Seranic said.

There was also a fatality at the Banja Luka University Hospital. The patient was a 62-year-old woman with multiple chronic diseases.

Bosnia now has 873 confirmed cases of Covid-19, and 36 fatalities caused by the virus.
