To help those in need, Sarajevan Zoran Dedic – a marathon runner and humanitarian, decided to run his first individual marathon, sell the kilometres and donate for children with disabilities.

On May 1, he ran circles from the Sarajevo Old Town municipality building to the Dariva park, finishing the full distance in 4:14:46 time.

“I did it. I'm tired but what matters the most is that I managed to complete the mission and run a marathon without any injuries. Thanks all those who were supporting me throughout the race,” said Dedic.

Zoran has been an active runner for 26 years and has so far finished over 250 races, mostly marathon and half marathon distances (42.2 and 21.1 kilometres). This time he decided to expand his sports engagement to helping those severely affected during the coronavirus pandemic – children.

“I love children, I love helping and I'm doing all this because of love. I don't want to promote myself but it is my goal to raise the awareness of citizens and that we all help in our own way those who need it the most,” said Dedic.

Ibrahim Hadzibajric, Head of Sarajevo's Old Town Municipality, where Dedic ran the distance, welcomed the runner at the finish line and was the first to buy Dedic's kilometres.

Symbolically, the mayor handed over a medal to the runner.

All collected funds will be donated to the children with disabilities from the Old Town municipality, whose regular activities have been suspended in the institutions where they attended classes due to the coronavirus pandemic.
