Opposition lawmakers in Bosnia’s Serb-majority region of Republika Srpska (RS) submitted a request to the RS Constitutional Court on Wednesday asking it to review whether the measures the RS Government introduced after it declared a state of emergency in light of the coronavirus pandemic are constitutional.
The request was submitted by two MPs from the Party for Democratic Progress (PDP), Igor Crnadak and Drasko Stanivukovic.
“We have presented the facts – that during the state of emergency certain measures that were introduced were completely unnecessary,” Crnadak said, arguing that the question is whether the RS President had legal grounds for making certain decisions.
Stanivukovic said that ten lawyers already told him that certain measures were not in line with the RS Constitution.
Both of Bosnia’s semi-autonomous entities introduced a series of measures in light of the pandemic in March, including movement restrictions for the elderly and minors and curfews.
