A year after they blocked for the first time the main city dump Mostar is using for the past 60 years, activists and residents of nearby settlements gathered in front of the entrance of the Uborak dump again, requesting its relocation.

The head of the citizen's association ‘Jer nas se tice’ (Because in concerns us), Omer Hujdur, told N1 that citizens will not give up in their battle for the removal of the facility that they claim is jeopardising their health and that people will not allow the facility to expand.

“We will not allow them to make fools of us. We want to stand in front of the dump and clearly oppose the absurd attempt to expand it based on an old permit which expired back in October 2019,” Hujdur said, adding that the association has already submitted a complaint to the Commission of the FBiH Inspectorate and is prepared to start submitting lawsuits if there is no response.

“We would also block the dump before that,” he said.

According to one of the members of the association, Samija Kazazic, local representatives often tell the citizens one thing but then say something completely different to the media.

“It’s not completely clear to us what is happening with our problem and we are raising our voices for our health and to save our lives. It’s clear that something is wrong here and that garbage is being disposed of illegally and in the most primitive way,” she said.
