Four new cases of infection with the novel COVID-19 coronavirus have been confirmed in Slovenia after 300 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, the government announced on Twitter on Monday.

One case was reported in Ljubljana and the remaining three in the northern town of Ravne na Koroskem.

Currently, eight people are being treated for COVID-19 in hospitals, one more than on Sunday, and none of them require intensive care.

The total number of people infected since the beginning of the outbreak in the country is now 1,551 and the death toll stands at 111.

Meanwhile, Slovenian government’s spokesman, Jelko Kacin, announced that Slovenia may take Croatia off its list of safe countries for travel, due to a surge in infections Croatia has seen over the last days.

Slovenia expects Croatia to take the necessary measures to stem the outbreak, including a ban on gatherings of large numbers of people, Kacin said, according to Croatian Vecernji List daily.

“That doesn’t mean we’ll advise that no one travel there, everyone can make up their own minds, but the warning itself is a strong enough message,” he said.

“Zagreb is the hotspot now. It’s surprising that Croatia has decided to reopen nightclubs, which Slovenia hasn’t done. However, there are also some concerns regarding data monitoring… The Prime Ministers have been in touch and Slovenia expects that Croatia will give up its night life, given that night clubs have proven to be a source of contagion around the world,” Kacin added.
