Bosnia sees dramatic decline in foreign tourist arrivals

As most of the countries worldwide, Bosnia and Herzegovina has also experienced a significant drop in the number of foreign visits during the first half of 2020 -- amid the coronavirus pandemic, with 96.9 percent less tourists this May only than in the same month last year.

According to the Statistics Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the number of visits in May this was 4,800, which is more than triple the figure for April the same year but 96.9 less than in the same month last year.

The number of overnight stays in May was less than 14,000, which is a 95.2 drop compared to May 2019.

Of the total number of overnight stays, domestic tourists made 87.8 percent of it, while the most numerous among the foreign tourists were those from Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

During the period from January through May, there were some 183,000 visits recorded in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is by 65.7 percent less than in the same period of 2019.
