Tuesday night stabbing of a migrant in the north-western city of Bihac is becoming almost an everyday occurrence in this part of Bosnia, Una-Sana Canton Police spokesperson Ale Siljdedic said on Wednesday.
“We received the information that a man's been stabbed at around 7 pm. We found a foreign national with serious bodily injuries made with a sharp object, most likely a knife, and took him to the local hospital ‘Dr Irfan Ljubijiankic’,” Siljdedic said, adding that they are still searching for the perpetrator of this criminal offence.
He pointed out that this is just another in a series of incidents in recent times, and that the uncontrolled daily influx of migrants significantly complicates the security situation in the Canton.
“We can say that this has become our daily routine, especially in Bihac, Velika Kladusa and parts of the town of Cazin. Over 100 illegal migrants arrive in the canton almost every day, and they are finding it increasingly difficult to cross the border with the Republic of Croatia. Their increasing number also resulted in an increase in the number of crimes and incidents municipalities and towns. The police are trying to respond to this challenge in a professional and responsible manner, but we are facing a really complex situation,” Siljdedic said.
Local migrant camps are currently home to some 3,000 illegal migrants but estimates say that over 4,000 of them are residing in the streets and abandoned houses and facilities in Bihac, Cazin and Velika Kladusa.
