Hundreds of residents of the northwestern Bosnian town of Velika Kladusa on Sunday evening blocked a road near the camp for the accommodation of irregular migrants, to express their revolt against the escalating migrant crisis.
The blockade of the road ensued after disgruntled protesters tried to prevent passengers from getting off a bus, which was heading for Bihac. The police then intervened to prevent new clashes.
On Saturday, residents organised a peaceful protest in that town.
Protesters say that locals are exposed to more and more looting and that abandoned houses were being more frequently set on fire.
Currently, 1,300 migrants are staying in that camp called “Miral”.
An estimated 7,000 illegal migrants are believed to be staying in the northwestern part of Bosnia near the border with Croatia. Many of them sleep outdoors and in abandoned structures.
