In an exclusive interview with N1, Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic said Friday the Resolution on Srebrenica will only serve the daily-political goals as it is paradoxically being voted on for the second time.

According to him, the goal of the second vote on the Resolution on Srebrenica is not to condemn the crime, genocide or to contribute to reconciliation, but to contribute to divisions.

“That's it, and in the absence of other topics, you bring up that topic and trade in the victims of genocide in Srebrenica, and that’s happening in Montenegro. And the parties doing that are the ethnic parties representing Bosniaks. Good luck with that. Let someone reap the political benefits – if that’s the price, we’ll pay that price. We paid for it earlier. Imagine someone saying that they want to vote on the resolution for Montenegro's entry into NATO again? But, I have nothing against it,” said Abazovic.

He noted that despite everything, the Resolution will not harm the relations within the ruling coalition in Montenegro, adding that it was the Prime Minister who filed a motion to dismiss the Justice Minister after his statement asking for definite proof that genocide took place in Srebrenica.

When asked if he would really be dismissed, the Deputy Prime Minister said it was up to the MPs.

“We can’t tell people how to vote. That party that is so much defended in BiH, the DPS Milo Djukanovic, has left the Assembly and the Minister cannot be dismissed. And they act like they’re some great defenders of Srebrenica, and yet they were political actors when the genocide in Srebrenica was happening. You (the public in BiH, op. Cit.) don’t want to talk about that or you speak of it on the sidelines. I’m not saying they were there and killing people but they performed top political functions in the state then. They have the permanent support of the media in BiH against people who are at least trying to bring in some new values,” Abazovic told N1.

He pointed out that he believes that “the focus of Montenegro and the entire region is on the wrong things instead of talking about progress, the future, joint infrastructure projects.”

“We are constantly talking about religion, ethnicity, church, flags, divisions… I don’t see any major problem or any coup in the Prime Minister’s visit to the Serbian Orthodox Church. We should sign a basic agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church, as we did with other religious communities. It should be a document that has less legal force than the law and it should be harmonized with the Constitution and the law. If it turns out like that, I don't see a problem in formalizing it that way,” Abazovic said.
