Last year was one of the deadliest for journalists worldwide, with the mortality rate jumping by up to 50 percent compared to 2021. In an interview with N1, Attila Mong, a representative of the European Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), analyzed the latest events and trends that have been present for years. According to the CPJ data, the most dangerous areas in the world for journalists were Ukraine, Mexico and Haiti. What is worrying is the number of detained journalists, as well as those facing numerous false lawsuits that prevent them from working. Mong pointed out that the trends that are noticeable at the global level are also present in the Western Balkans.
