The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konakovic, participated in a meeting in Luxembourg with EU Foreign Ministers and Western Balkans counterparts, invited by Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Following the meeting, Konakovic shared his impressions.

Minister Konakovic stated that support for EU expansion to the Western Balkans has never been stronger, but Bosnia and Herzegovina's progress is hindered by politicians prioritizing personal interests over societal ones.

“We have an unprecedented opportunity due to the Russian aggression against Ukraine. Russian influence has never been greater, and we see images of Dodik and Putin criticizing the West. Politicians like Milorad Dodik operate under Moscow's orders,” Konakovic said.

He emphasized that the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina, including those in Republika Srpska, understand the importance of cooperation with the EU, noting that 92% of their exports go to EU countries, while only 0.8% go to Russia and China. Konakovic criticized Dodik for promoting narratives that do not improve living conditions for the people.

When asked about the shift from Euro-enthusiasm to the current situation, Konaković explained, “I don't think Dodik believed we would start negotiations in March. He said it wouldn't happen. When we began negotiations, his handlers saw Bosnia and Herzegovina getting closer to the EU, leading him to revert to obstruction.”

Konakovic expressed doubt about reaching an agreement with Dodik, accusing him of constantly seeking conflict and entertaining the public with distractions. He believes Dodik is leading Republika Srpska in the wrong direction under Moscow's orders and for personal gain.

“Dodik cares more about Russian interests than those of the Serb people,” Konakovic told N1.

In response, Milorad Dodik announced on social media platform X that he has an exclusive recording of Konakovic's performance in Luxembourg, which he plans to release the following morning. The nature of the recording remains unclear.
