Rescue teams searching for victims of last week’s floods in Bosnia and Herzegovina found two more bodies on Monday in the area of Buturovic Polje in the municipality of Konjic.
This was confirmed to the media by Husein Hodzic, the head of the Civil Protection of Konjic, who said one man's body was discovered after it emerged from a local river.
“We are still searching for three more victims, and an intensive search of the terrain is being conducted,” said Hodzic.
He highlighted that around ten villages in the municipality remain cut off due to the destruction of local roads, which complicates the use of heavy machinery necessary to clear debris and access these areas.
Rescue teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina in Buturovic Polje are receiving assistance from the Croatian Civil Protection, the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service, and specialised teams from Slovenia.
Sinisa Badovinac, head of Civil Protection in Rijeka, stated that 37 people and two search dogs have been deployed in the area. Their priority is to recover the bodies.
He also warned that conditions on the ground are extremely challenging. “The dogs and rescuers are literally sinking into the mud, making it very difficult to move through the terrain,” Badovinac said, adding that the teams from Croatia are prepared to move to other locations if needed.
