Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomed 160,780 tourists in April, up 48 percent from March 2026

Bosnia and Herzegovina was visited by 160,780 tourists in April 2026, representing an increase of 48.2 percent compared to March 2026 and 2.5 percent compared to April 2025.

The largest numbers of foreign tourists in April came from Serbia (16,116), Croatia (14,965), Turkiye (9,912), Slovenia (8,760), Germany (5,725), and China (4,991).

Tourists recorded 324,184 overnight stays, which is 42.1 percent more than in March 2026 and 0.4 percent more than in April 2025.

Of the total number of overnight stays, domestic tourists accounted for 30.9 percent, while foreign tourists accounted for 69.1 percent.

The number of overnight stays by domestic tourists in April 2026 was 39.2 percent higher than in March 2026 and 10 percent higher than in April 2025, according to data from the Agency for Statistics of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists was 43.4 percent higher than in March 2026 but 3.4 percent lower than in April 2025.

In the structure of overnight stays by foreign tourists, visitors from Croatia accounted for the largest share with 15 percent, followed by Serbia with 13.6 percent, Slovenia with 8.9 percent, Turkey with 7.1 percent, Germany with 5.5 percent, the United States with 4.1 percent, and Italy with 3.5 percent.

These countries accounted for 57.7 percent of all overnight stays by foreign tourists, while tourists from other countries generated the remaining 42.3 percent.

In April 2026, tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina had access to 21,148 rooms, apartments, and camping sites, with a total capacity of 47,778 beds.

Compared to April 2025, the availability of rooms, apartments, and camping sites decreased by 1.1 percent, while the number of beds remained virtually unchanged.

Regarding the length of stay of foreign tourists in Bosnia and Herzegovina, visitors from Egypt stayed the longest during the observed period, averaging 4.1 overnight stays per arrival.

They were followed by tourists from the United Arab Emirates with an average of 2.9 overnight stays, and visitors from Denmark and Lithuania with 2.8 overnight stays each.

Tourists from France and Malta averaged 2.7 overnight stays per arrival, while visitors from Cyprus, Sweden, and Belgium averaged 2.5 overnight stays.

By type of accommodation facility, the highest number of overnight stays was recorded in the category “hotels and similar accommodation”, which accounted for 94.7 percent of the total number of overnight stays.
