Lawyers engaged by the Republika Srpska Chamber of Commerce have filed a criminal complaint against Zijad Krnjic, a member of the Board of the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ITA), for blocking the opening of a new border crossing with Croatia at Gradiska for months.

The Chamber acted on behalf of companies suffering direct losses as their trucks face long waits at congested crossings. The new Gradiska crossing, ready since December 2025, remains closed despite EU support and over €100 million invested, including a new bridge over the Sava and access roads on the Croatian side.
Krnjic is accused of repeatedly voting against amendments to UNO’s internal regulations, preventing customs staffing at the new crossing. The Chamber described his actions as deliberate obstruction.
Krnjic justified his stance by demanding that the inter-entity dispute over customs revenue distribution be resolved first, claiming the Federation entity is disadvantaged under the current system. No agreement has yet been reached, forcing travellers and freight to use the congested old crossing.
Around 140,000 freight vehicles pass through this crossing annually, making it BiH’s busiest and a key EU trade link.
The current Federation government, led by Nermin Niksic (Social Democratic Party - SDP), has no power to remove Krnjic. Niksic said Krnjic “represents the policy of the SDA (Democratic Action Party)” and described the obstruction as a political, not government, stance.
